Mercury ENTERS Capricorn = Look what the Wind blew in.

December is here.

On December 1st, the sky was grey after an overnight rain, and Will and I bundled up to make our way to the spring we get our water from.

As I rode in the passenger seat, the weather enveloped me. I was taken to one Connecticut winter, braiding rugs beneath a sky just like this that for weeks never lifted, on a farm that some weeks I never left.

Many nights I slept on the floor in front of the hearth. The house was planted in a meadow that in the winter became a windy corridor. I got to know the way the Wind behaved. Sometimes it was so strong it would create it’s own vacuums, sucking specific doors open, or slamming them shut.

I became comforted by the Wind’s idiosyncrasies. I would turn off all the lights, make a small fire in the hearth at the center of the house, and lay down to listen to the howl of Wind and crackle of Fire.

This year, the gas range stove is my hearth. Brewing broths from the remnants of feasts. Preparing and dehydrating meals with the yield. Bottling tinctures. Blending oils. This winter takes on the tinkle of brown glass bottles. The Wind is the white noise of the dehydrator, and the last of the air getting sucked out by the vacuum sealer.

“The satisfaction of a winter well prepared for,” nods Mercury, blowing open the door to my fourth house of home, and root structure.

As Mercury passes through Capricorn, where is it visiting you?
