For the past year, my maternal grandmother and I have had a “book club”. We meet almost every week to talk about what we’ve read.

When I read with my grandmother, she shares with me her life-stories, her perspective, and the way she approaches reading. She never submits to any idea, she tests her own experience in relationship to it. She thinks critically, but allows herself to be changed by the process of being-with each book.

When we meet together, she lets me look at her birth chart. This is how I learned our natal Saturns are both in Aquarius, one degree away from each other (a conjunction). If Saturn represents commitment, it’s no wonder we’ve decided to undertake what is a huge commitment for both of us.

At 92, I learn from her what it means to journey through your THIRD Saturn return, and the flavors it might take on in my own lifetime. “I just never want to stop seeking. I couldn’t. I wouldn’t be living,” she tells me. We share a dedication to a quest for a meaningful life.
