This is the first drawing I made in Virginia Rosenberg's Sky Scholar course. Through guided meditation, Virginia led us to a sacred space we could visit and revisit to commune with the Earth and Sky. I was led to a huge maple tree, and climbed up into the crux of its branches to gaze at the night Sky. Later, we were invited to create something around what came through, and this is what I made. In our community forum, I shared my own art, as well as witnessed others. Some shared their visions in poems, or snapped pictures of newly created altars. Others made collages and paintings, or wrote a description of what they had received during meditation. Everyone's vision was different. Throughout Sky Scholar, Virginia gives you many opportunities to open a personal dialogue with the heavenly bodies in a variety of different modalities, from movement practices, to writing prompts, to artistic exercises. It doesn't matter if what you make is 'good'. This is not about being an artist. It's about initiating YOURSELF into a relationship with astrology that is CREATIVE. Like all language, meaning shifts over time. The astrological language is no different. Sky Scholar is an astrological lineage of CREATING meaning, not simply consuming tropes and rote memorization. The messages you receive can and should be translated in the medium(s) that most call to you. This is a way you can create a relationship with astrology unique to you, founded upon your own knowing. Creations become stepping stones. What might not 'make sense' in the beginning grows thick with the moss of meaning over time. There is no muse quite like the Stars. As comparative mythologist Joseph Campbell said, "The planet we are on is a little pebble, and we have grown out of the Earth of this pebble. This is the fantastic mythology that's waiting for someone to write poems about it."
